Advocacy
The Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington is required by the Older Americans Act to advocate for the development of a comprehensive and coordinated community-based system of services.
There are several ways in which our organization advocates for seniors and adults with disabilities, including work managed by our Advisory Council and our staff members. Below is a partial list of key roles we continue to play in the community:
- The Area Agency sponsors community planning forums to lead the creation of aging-ready communities
- Staff work with and serve on sub-committees of the Clark County Commission on Aging (COA) and Southwest Washington Elder Abuse Prevention (SWEAP).
- Our Executive Director is a member of the W4A, an organization that works with Department of Social and Human Services (DSHS) on issues important to the clientele we serve.
- Our Advisory Council sponsors community forums and meets with legislators to personalize the impact that pending legislation has on our client.
